This 1956 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Catalina is a neat 50s cruiser complete with a numbers matching motor. 1956 was an important year for Pontiac, with famed executive Buckie Knudsen taking the reigns at the General Motors' marque in the middle of the summer and with the division producing its six millionth automobile a month later. The 1956 models were introduced to the public on October 21st however production had started on them a couple weeks earlier. In '56, the Pontiac Motor Division offered two series, the budget friendly Chieftain and the more luxurious Star Chief, with both series coming in a variety of body styles. With its additional exterior trim, the Star Chief had a higher level of sophistication from nearly every angle. The rear chrome torpedo-style trim on the rear quarters and jet-like hood ornament, Pontiac clearly had taken some aviation influences and incorporated it in its design. Interestingly in the mid-fifties, Pontiac offered 2 door cars–2 door sedans and 2 door "Catalinas," the latter being Pontiac's name for its pillar-less hardtop. Power is driven to the rear wheels via the numbers matching 316.6 Cubic Inch Strato-Streak V8 engine paired with a single 4 barrel carburetor, that pushed out 227 horsepower in its day. The 317 V8 is hooked up to a Hydra-Matic Automatic Transmission ensuring that anybody can take this 50s Pontiac for an afternoon cruise. This Star Chief is a particularly well-optioned example. With power steering, getting in and out of tight spaces is a breeze! Power brakes provide plenty of help bringing this Star Chief Catalina to a full stop. Riding on P225/70R15 whitewall radial tires with full wheel covers, this '56 Pontiac has a great look and even better ride. A rear-mounted continental kit provides a spare tire as well and adds to the classic 50s look of the car. The exterior has been refinished in its original color scheme, Nimbus Gray and Avalon Blue. The interior on this 1956 Star Chief has a great stock look! The front and rear bench seats have been reupholstered in Teal Blue and White vinyl. The dash, door panels, and steering wheel match the overall look of the car and appear to be in their stock configuration. The dash is equipped with a 120 MPH speedometer, battery gauge, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, fuel gauge, clock, and AM radio. A Sunpro temperature gauge is tucked neatly under the dash as well for an improved reading while cruising. Whether you're looking to buy your very first classic car or you're adding to your existing Pontiac collection, this 1956 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Catalina would make an excellent choice.
