Description
60 mm diameter old presentation medal of Soviet Spaceflight Control Center, minted from flown metal.Carried on orbit as a souvenir by Expedition-63 cosmonaut-engineer Ivan Vagner.COA included.
In 1988 a small number of medals was minted for presentation to ballistics of Mission Control Center, for taking part in flight control of Phobos craft.
Front side of medal depicts Phobos over Mars surface. Reverse shows Spaceflight Control Centre logo.
The Phobos program was an unmanned space mission consisting of the two probes launched by the Soviet Union to study Mars and its moons Phobos and Deimos.Phobos-1 was launched on July 7, 1988 and five days later launched Phobos-2, each on Proton-K rocket.
