These rings are made of porous ceramic material. The tiny pores and the surface of the ceramic provide large amount of area for cycle bacteria to colonize. The beneficial bacteria help remove toxic ammonia and nitrite from tank water.
Hollow-shaped design allows water run thru and less likely get clogged, and allows massive colonies of beneficial bacteria to grow on and inside each ring, creating an ideal “bio chemical filter”.
The ceramic rings will not break down in the filter or alter pH or water hardness. Good for both fresh and saltwater aquariums.
