It's offered to your attention the
hypothermia protection warm suit TZK-14
intended to be used by Russian cosmonaut Sergey Volkov upon his return from space mission ISS-45/46 for survival in case of abnormal landing of Soyuz TMA-18M in cold and windy conditions. This particular suit was compactly packed in 3 soft packages and placed into Soyuz TMA-18M lander for Sergey Volkov, having his initials VSA on all the packages. The suit was the part of survival kit named "Granat-6", and this name is also presented on its packages. The space mission ISS-45/46 successfully accomplished from September 02, 2015 to March 02, 2016, totally lasting 181 days. Due to exact landing and quick rescue of the crew, the warm protection suit has never been used as intended and remained unopened until March, 2019. Then Sergey Volkov unpacked the suit to make sure of its undamaged state and take its actual photos.
Design features.
The warm suit TZK-14 consists of coveralls, balaclava helmet, hat, fur stockings, soft high boots and gloves. If operational with underwear and the orange immersion suit "Forel", the warm suit TZK-14 is intended to save cosmonaut's life at ambient air temperature of -50°C (-58 degrees F) or warmer and windspeed of up to 10 m/s (approx. 22 mph US). The coveralls insulation is enhanced with padded polyester. There are zippers and snap button closures on the coveralls. The fabrics and eiderdown used in the suit's manufacture ensure its low overall weight and its ability to occupy minimal space when stored.
Personality.
Sergey Volkov is the first Russian cosmonaut of the second generation. His father cosmonaut Alexander Volkov flew onboard space stations Salyut-7 and MIR, retired in 1998. During his first space mission Sergey Volkov met the first American second generation astronaut Richard Garriott. They landed together. Commander of the ISS-17 mission at the age of 35, Sergey Volkov was the youngest person to command the ISS in its history. Like his father, Sergey accomplished 3 space flights. Sergey spent almost 548 days in space. He made 4 spacewalks of the total duration of over than 23 hours. Titled as the Hero of Russia, Sergey Volkov has many awards. He left the cosmonauts team in 2017.
